The Church of Our Holy
Saviour, Labuan (COHS) hosted the event which was held from 28 May to 31 May
2006. 95 participants registered for the conference of which 17 were from
All Saints Catheral, St Patrick’s Church, St Andrew’s Church, Christ Church
Likas and Good Shepherd Church.
The speakers for the
conference were our vibrant Bishop of Sabah, The Right Rev. Albert Vun, Rev.
John Yeo (Rector of Christ Church Likas) and a mission team from Cathedral
of Faith, Atlanta, USA consisting of 13 members gifted in the areas of
teaching and music. The mission team was led by Rev. Moses Afful.
To welcome our guest
speakers and participants, a sumptuous BBQ Dinner was held at the Tiara
Hotel on the evening of 28 May 2006. It was a free & easy night to allow
both the speakers and the participants to get to know one another.
A series of 7 workshops were
held covering areas in work, relationships (marriage & singleness) and
money. These were taught by the USA mission team. Workshop topics include
“Biblical Perspective of Work”, “The Christian Employer”, “Climbing the
Corporate Ladder”, “Marriage & Ministry”, “Role of the Sexes in a Marriage”,
“Singleness & the Transition to Marriage” and “Relationship with Wealth”.
Apart from the workshops, there was also a one-hour session on The Da Vinci
Code. Though time was a limiting factor the participants were blessed with
lots of material on this subject. In addition to the workshops, there were
also Bible Expositions on the Book of Jude and teachings on Christian
Discipline - Prayer in the morning sessions by Dr Robertson and Ps Mosley
respectively, for the first two days of the conference.
The highlight of the
conference were the Revival Meetings. The Right Rev. Albert Vun was the
speaker for the first night while Ps Mosley spoke on the second night. Many
were ministered, blessed and challenged to lead a victorious life especially
by Bishop’s message “The Right Spirit”. Ps Mosley’s message was entitled
“Wasted Time”. Throughout the Revival Meetings, the worship team (COHS on
the first night and the USA mission team the following night) led everyone
into a passionate worship experience. There was a wonderful outpouring of
the Holy Spirit causing a new desire and passion for God.
The theme of the conference
– “Carpe Diem” a Latin phrase which means “Seize the Day” was explained &
expounded by Rev. John Yeo on the last day of the conference. It was a
fitting finale as his teaching on the Book of Ruth was beautifully tied in
to the theme of the conference.
Towards the end, Rev. David
Wong (Priest-in-Charge of COHS) closed the conference and blessed all
participants.
Overall, the conference was
a success judging from the evaluation gathered from the participants. We
give all glory to God!!
