churches and their members to move out into missions.
The Conference began on the 13th evening with a Welcome Dinner and

It was colorful and exuberant. 4 sessions were packed into the next
morning ending with lunch. The Consecration of the Assistant Bishop

afternoon followed by a banquet. There were 2 more sessions on the
third and last day followed by the Commissioning and Sending Out of
the teams.
160 participants were formed into 23 teams and sent out to minister
to churches in Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, West Malaysia, Sarawak
and to churches in Sabah. Intercessors were mobilized to adopt the
teams that went out. Team members also recruited prayer partners to

encouraged to hear testimonies of the mighty working of the Holy
Spirit.

of the Kota Kinabalu churches who were mobilized to organize the
event.
Those who sow in tears will reap with songs
of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return
with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him. Psalm 126:5-6 |

40th Anniversary of
Christ Church Likas |
|
Kota
Kinabalu - June |
 |
Christ Church was
consecrated in 1969 and for many years there was no
residential priest. The Rt Rev Datuk Albert Vun in his
anniversary message to the church reminded them of the hard
times and the difficult lessons learned in their 40 years’
journey. The lessons were like the mustard seed of Mark
4:31-32 which was planted
and has grown into a big tree. He called the church to have
‘big branches’ providing shade for the birds of the air.
He challenged Christ Church to serve as a sending church so
that faith is sustained and passion for the lost
continues to flourish. |
|
|
Archdeacon John Yeo shared
three thoughts from Hebrews 12:1-3 with the theme ‘Soaring at 40’:
|
First, they are not
alone as they have a cloud of witnesses who have finished the race
and are waiting at the finish line cheering them on.
Second, they are to continue the race as the baton has been
passed on to them. They are to throw off
everything that hinders.
Third, the key to soaring high is to fix their eyes on Jesus. |
|
The month-long celebration
included a group of musicians from USA. They were featured in a
musical concert called ‘Fly High’. About 1,000 turned out for the
concert and it raised the awareness of Christ Church among the
residents of Likas. Seminars on Prayer, Revival and training for
musicians involved in worship was also conducted in conjunction with
the celebration. Some of the former in-charge clergy of Christ
Church came back to join in the celebration.
Rev Gordon Boughton and his family came all the way back from
Australia. Rev Herbert Tong and Kathrina Tong and Bishop Yong Ping
Chung and Julia Yong were also present at the Anniversary and
Thanksgiving Dinner. |
