About the school |
|
St.
Patrick’s Academy started on Jan 6, 2002 with 28 students and 3 staff, in
response to the conviction that we need to contribute to our community
through education. It is also the revival of a long tradition of the
church's involvement in providing education par excellence. |

SPA uses the School of Tomorrow curriculum, an
internationally-recognized curriculum which emphasizes on
individualized learning and character building, equipping children
to think well, act responsibly and live wisely. The academic
foundation is Bible-based and trains students in the Word of God.
The chief distinction of the School of Tomorrow curriculum is its
inclusion of wisdom as a deliberate aspect of the learning process.
Education is is more than academic achievement, education is life.
The students learn about life not only from man's perspective, but
from God's perspective. Our goal is to teach the children how to
live their lives with wisdom. |

The core
curriculum is taught in English and consists of Math, English, Social
Studies (Geography and History), Science, Word Building, and
Literature/Creative writing. The older students have a choice of senior
electives which contribute credits towards their year-10 /year-12 graduation
certificates. Students may prepare for international tertiary entrance
examinations such as the SATs (Scholastic Aptitude Tests) which are
prerequisites for tertiary studies in many countries including Australia,
New Zealand, the USA, Singapore and now also in some private tertiary
institutions in Malaysia. Some of our students are also registered with
TEACH-Asia, which supports the School of Tomorrow work based in Singapore.
Through TEACH, the students are eligible for the ICCE (International
Christian Certificate of Education) which is recognized by UCAS in the UK as
one of the entrance qualifications to many universities and
institutions there. |

SPA provides
Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese language classes as an additional feature to
keep up with our Malaysian identity. Through these language classes, we are
able to provide teaching of Malaysian social studies, including history and
culture. With the increasing importance of writing skills and computer
technology, we are also introducing writing skills classes and computer
classes for the further enhancement of the students' skills. Extracurricular
activities such as field trips, art and craft lessons, music classes,
educational talks, are incorporated as a regular part of the SPA programme. |

Our
present enrolment is over 110 students, with 14 full-time and 3 part-time
teaching and supervisory staff. With the addition of our newest learning
centre, Joyful, we now have 4 learning centers, 2 language rooms, a
library/computer room, a canteen area, a hall and school locker room. The
school also uses other facilities and rooms in the church buildings for
various classes and activities. We are thankful for the support of members
and staff of St Patrick's Church in the growth and progress of the school as
we work together in serving the community at large. |
