The New Archbishop of The Province of South East Asia

Nepal, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) with a population of 450 million people in the context of multi-religious, racial, languages, cultures and customs. Archbishop Yong, who will retire in February 2006 when he reaches his 65th birthday, requests the whole Province to remember Bishop John Chew, his family and his Diocese, in prayers. The Extra-Ordinary meeting of the Synod is provided for by the Constitution of the Province for the specific purpose of choosing the new Archbishop. The Primate of all Nigeria, the Most Reverend Peter Akinola was the Guest of Honour as Retreat Speaker for the gathering. He spoke about the call to leadership of Moses in a crucial and difficult time in the history of the Israelites, and also some of the apostles in Jesus’ own plan for mission. In the 3 Retreat addresses, he shared the mission experience of the Province of Nigeria and his own experience of the calling to be Primate of all Nigeria, a large church of 18 million worshipers.
