Appointment of the 5th Bishop of The Anglican Diocese of Sabah

The Most Revd Datuk Yong Ping Chung, the Primate of the Province of South East Asia, announced in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia today (29th August 2005) that the Venerable Albert Vun Cheong Fui, Archdeacon of the Urban Area of Sabah and Rector of St Patrick’s Church, Tawau has been unanimously appointed by the House of Bishops of the Province of the Anglican Church in South East Asia to be the 5th Bishop of the Diocese of Sabah.

 

Archbishop Datuk Yong was very pleased that a man of deep faith, spiritual vitality and fruitful ministry has been appointed to fill this post.  The brief CV of The Venerable Albert Vun Cheong Fui is attached.  The Consecration and Installation Service of the new Bishop will be held at All Saints Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu on St Mark’s Day, 25th April 2006.  More details will be announced when they become available.

 

The jurisdiction of the Bishop of Sabah covers the whole state of Sabah and the whole island of Labuan.  The Average Attendance during each Sunday is approximately 17,500.  Our membership is approximately 60,000 to 70,000.  Our churches are situated throughout Sabah from the urban towns to the most remote interior parts of Sabah.  Serving under the Bishop of Sabah, are 42 Clergy, 26 Pastors, 29 Evangelists, 30 Youth Evangelists and 172 licensed Lay Readers with numerous Lay Officers.  We also own 4 Secondary Schools, 7 Primary Schools and more than 10 Kindergartens.

 

The Diocese of Sabah is one of the four founding members of the Province of the Anglican Church in South East Asia.  We are active partners with other Dioceses to do our Mission in the 9 Nations under our Province.  The new Bishop-Elect will have plenty to do as he takes up the full responsibility of the Diocese at the Installation.
